Composition! 30/04/10

Today was the due date for our practice jingle composition. I handed mine in. Only about 6 people in the class handed it in. Then we listened to theirs. The compositions were really good! And my suggestion was that my jingle is suitable to be used for 'dufan' like advertisement.
Then we had instrument time with our groups. For next time, I will practice as we xhanged the intro and things and have it memorized.

Very Relaxed Lesson 27/04/10

Today, we started the lesson with Mr Herry checking on our homework. Nobody did the homework except for James. I have actually made the draft of the jingle, however, I do not have the programme finale. So Mr Herry still gave me a breach for homework.
After this, we performed with our groups, I think my group did pretty well. Although we were missing a member, Jayne. Then we had instrument time. For next time, I will finish my homework and get the group presentation polished.

Another Awesome Performance! 23/04/10

Today we started the lesson with writing a four bar draft for our jingle. This is just for a practice. We had to choose 4 different instruments. I think my four bars would sound pretty good.
After we finished, each of the group again performs their songs. I think my group did way better than last time as we actually finished the song, although we had some problems with the tempo. For next time, the singers should sing louder so that the rest can accompany them in the right tempo.

Presentation 20/04/10

Today, we started the lesson with introduction to the background music. Mr Herry told us that we need to make a background music for our business project. We then saw and heard the background music for some famous advertisements. After that, he showed us the programme called Finale and it looks awesome!
In the second session, we did our group presentation on Sway! I reckon we sounded pretty good. For next time, we will play it better, polished and until the end.

History and Notation Test 16/04/10

Today, we had the history and notation test. I reckon I did pretty good as I prepared nicely for it. The history was a bit more challenging than the notation bit, but I managed to finish it both. Hopefully I can get a good result which would please me, and the information used in the test would be useful for next time.

Singing Assessment 13/04/10

Today, we had our singing assessment on the song 'I Got Rhythm'. I was very nervouse as we had to sing solo unlike the last assessment where we can go as a pair. Thankfully I was second to last. I think I did pretty well, definitely better than last time. I memorised the lyrics and sang with confidence. One thing that I could improve for next time is by using more expressions.
After that we had instrument time, and I started learning the piano part for 'Sway'.

Questions Review 9/4/10

Today, we got into our groups according to the music era. Mr Herry then told us to write the questions we wrote on Tuesday on an A2 sheet of paper. Then we got asked 3 questions. Our group got one wrong, hehe, but hopefully we'll do better on the text next friday. Then we sang the song in preparation for our test next monday. Hopefully I will do good on the tests, and have the performance group practices successfully.

First Music Class Term 4

Today was our first music class for term 4. We started the lesson with reviewing the 7th chord and Mr Herry taught us for the 9th and 11th one. It was pretty simple. After that we sang a new song that Mr Herry distributed. The song's pretty nice. Then we got our music research booklet back from last term. I was really pleased with my score!! :D Mr Herry then told us to write 5 questions according to our music era group. Then we decided on our group for the group performance by doing 'gambreng'. My group's alright I reckon, I have ade with me. :)
For next time, I will try to know the song better and hopefully this term would be a good one to end the school year! :)

Last Lesson of the Term 3

Today, we got taught fully about the blues scale and chords. Mr Herry gave us a couple of examples on the board with the c major scale and the g major scale. We were told to write the scale and then write the chord for it. This was a pretty relaxing lesson as we didn't have to do too much that day. This exercise on the scale shall help me in the future.

12 Bar Blues Performance 12/03/10

Today was the 12 br blues performance. We started the lesson with the pwople who havnt done the last assessment to play first. Then when it was time for the 12 bar blues, the piano players had some time to practise. I practised my 12 bar blues, and it was fine. When it was time to perform, I was a little nervous as always.. But I was also more confident than last time. I kind of mucked up the last 2 bars. Hopefully it is not too noticable. For next time, I am going to aim for perfect performance with no mistakes. Amin. :)

Assessment Cancelled 09/03/10

Today, Mr Harry was sick, so he couldn't teach us. Because of this, our 12 bar blues assessment is postponed until next session, which would be Friday. We pratically performed each of our 12 bar blues in front of the class as a practice. I havnt practised my 12 bar blues a lot, so I didn't play it that smooth. For next Friday, I will practise hard out at home so that I can be ready for the performance and get a better mark from the All of Me assessment.

'All of Me' Performance

Today, we had our 'All of Me' performance. It was decided that piano should perform first, guitar second, violins and then woodwinds. We first had about 15 mins practice time before out performance. I think I did alright for my performance. Although I made a few mistakes, which was really unfortunate. I've practiced a lot at home, but I guess I didn't practice enough. I was very nervous when I did the assessment because I think I havnt performed piano for ages. I will try to do better next performance, which would be the 12 bar blues. :)

Holiday^^

Today we had a public holiday, so we didn't have school. Even though it is a holiday, I will still practice my 12 bar blues for me performance next week.

Music Class 23/02/10

Today we heard Kezia, James and Kevin H's 12 Bar Blues because they did a very good job of it. I also got mine back and I got 9+. I reckon that is a pretty good mark for my first composition. I will practice mine at home and have it ready after I perform 'All of Me'. Then we heard Ian sing 'Sway'. It was very entertaining.
After break, we had the instrument time. I practised 'All of Me' and after that we heard each person perform it. But Mr Harry told us that there are three parts in the performance. I will preactice it at home and have it reasdy by next time as is it will be our performing day.

Music Class 19/02/2010

Today we had two people from each instrument group perform 'All of Me' in front of the class with their specific instruments. Adeline and Tiffany were the two that performed from our group. They did really well and I should hopefully be able to play like them on the performance day.
We then had a very long practice time on our instruments. After the practice, I performed 'All of Me' in front of the piano people. I got the hang of the song and for next time I will have it polished and played smoothly without any mistakes.

Music Class 16/02/2010

Today we started the lesson by copying our final copy of 12 bar blues. We then gave it to Mr Harry. I improved some of my composition because the 16 note bar was too hard and I cannot really play that bit properly. After handing it in, we got told where the walking base came from and some basic theory of Blues. For next time, I will practice my 12 bar blues, so when we have our performance, I will have it ready.
After this, we had our instrument playing session for about 10 minutes. I played 'All of Me' with the walking bass and I think I did not do a very good job of it. For next time, hopefully I would be able to play it smoothly.

Music Class 12/02/10

Today, Mr Harry played our 12 bar blues to give us a sense of how it would sound. My one sounded alright but I need to improve on the 16 notes (the scale). The beat is fast which would mean the 16 notes would be too fast for me to play. I think I am going to change those 2 bars. But the rest sounded fine. For next time I need to practice it further at home as the one I play at home does not sound like the one that Mr Harry played. After that, the guitar people performed 'All of Me'. It was a pretty enjoyable lesson. Thanks Mr Harry. Oh, I also need to practice 'All of Me' with the walking bass part.

Music Class 09/02/2010

Today, I handed in my music booklet on ragtime music. I think I did pretty good in it, as it has all of the information that Mr Harry required. Only a few people completed this as they didn't know that the templates were posted up on facebook. Just a suggestion Mr Harry, for next time, please send it to our binus email as well as some people do not check their facebook often. Thanks.
We also performed the melodies of 'All of Me' in front of the class. I think I did alright and I should learn the chords for next time. Each group performed, but only some of the members of the other groups performed. After this, we had an instrument playing session. Mr Harry taught us the chords for 'All of Me'. So I should go home tonight and practice it for next class.

Music Lesson 02/02/10

Today the music 'masters' showed us how to improvise the 12 bar blues so that we are able to compose the 12 bar blues easily. We also created some rhythms as a class example. Then after the lunch break, Malvin, Kevin and Emir did their presentation on fusion jazz. Bayu also did his part for the ragtime presentation as he was away on the leson when we did our presentations. Our assignment for the booklet is postponed until next tuesday as this friday is parent teacher conference. I enjoyed today's lesson as it was relaxing and I will have my assignment and homeworks done by next time.

Third Music Lesson 29/01/10

Today we basically did our presentations for both sessions. Adeline, Ian and I did ours on ragtime. Unfortunately, our other member Bayu is absent so we had to also present Bayu's part in the presentation. I reckon our group did well as we were the first group do the presentation. Although, we were not allowed to do the clicking on the computer so Mr Harry did it. He made mistakes which added to our total time of the presentation. He told us that we went overtime.. I got a little bit upset because 1 minute could have been wasted for fixing the mistakes that Mr Harry did.
In the future, I will talk louder and have more eye contact when delivering the speech.
